Family in Westlake is seeking a mature, fun, positive Caregiver for their nearly 18-year-old daughter with cerebral palsy. She is a very happy, social girl who has intellectual disabilities, mobility impairment and ADHD. She is a hard worker, is eager to please, and loves to be social and connect with friends. She has mild/moderate mobility impairment and walks well with leg braces.
Candidate must have education / experience in one of the following areas (or similar): special education, occupational therapy, speech therapy, nursing, health, or kinesiology. Caregiver will be creative in planning activities which promote physical, intellectual and emotional health. They will schedule appointments, transport to/from activities and run errands such as horseback riding, therapy appointments, grocery store, post office, dry cleaning, etc. (excellent driving record required; family has a car to drive while on the job). Candidate will also provide homework assistance (should have good organizational skills and be tech-savvy with Google Classroom, emails, etc.), prepare lunch and dinner (either for teenager or assist Mom in making family dinner), keep rooms/house tidy from activities/meals, and assist with bedtime routine (bath, pajamas).
Family is seeking a caregiver who is very active, adventurous and outdoorsy, as their daughter enjoys activities such as yoga, Peloton, cardio dance, swimming, hiking, kayaking, snow skiing, etc. They will also help with physical therapy exercises (including in pool). Family would love the nanny to be available both for some occasional overnights at home, as well as for summer travel (2-3 weeks in July to Telluride, 2-3 weeks in August to Maine). The ideal candidate will be mature, experienced (ready to take the reigns), organized, caring, empathetic, an excellent communicator, and have a willingness/interest to learn. Knowledge of health eating and nutrition is a big plus (teenager is gluten-free, dairy-free, and takes medications/supplements that will need to be logged/tracked).
Physical requirements include being physically fit enough to help her into the car (may grab arm for support; she is 110 lbs), have good strength and balance, and be very active and energetic for activities.
Both parents work – Dad full time (temporarily from home due to COVID), and Mom part-time (home office). Teenager has a yellow lab (assistance dog), so the caregiver will need to be dog-friendly. There is a live-in option (temporary or long-term) if needed, and family is open to a relocation for a candidate that meets all of the job criteria.
NOTE: Candidates must be following all procedures advised by the Center for Disease Control (CDC) for Coronavirus exposure prevention outside of their work hours (masks, hand washing, limiting contact/group sizes, social distancing, etc.). Initial interviews will be conducted virtually using Facetime, Zoom, etc.
